Our positions on the major issues:

Government

Government at all levels should be kept small to improve individual liberty and reduce costs to the taxpayer. Many of the problems we see with government are the result of too many government employees with too little work and too much budget.

Economy

We believe in the power and opportunity of America’s free-market economy. We believe in the importance of sensible business regulations that promote confidence in our economy among consumers, entrepreneurs, and businesses alike. We oppose interventionist policies that put the federal government in control of industry and allow it to pick winners and losers in the marketplace.

Jobs

The free market economy will provide an abundance of jobs if not overly shackled by regulation and taxes.

Taxes

Taxes must be kept low. Those who earn money will do a better job of spending it than will the government. In Washington State, we must work to oppose the introduction of income and capital gains taxes.

National Defense

President Ronald Reagan’s approach to America’s national defense, which successfully confronted the Soviet Union and ended the Cold War, is as essential today as it was then: Peace through strength — an enduring peace, based on freedom and the will to defend it. Today, it requires defending America’s homeland, including remaining vigilant in confronting global terrorism, maintaining a robust defense against the threats arising from nuclear proliferation, including a strong ballistic missile defense for America and our allies, and promoting an effective, capable intelligence community.

Health Care

The quality of health care declines as government involvement increases. The free-market can provide the best healthcare, assisted by tax benefits to individuals, competition, and choice.

Education

America’s education system benefits the teachers’ unions at the expense of students and causes the USA to fall behind the rest of the developed world. Parents must be empowered to send their children to the school of their choice, including charter schools and homeschooling.

Energy

The United States must achieve energy independence. We support an “all of the above” approach that encourages the responsible production of nuclear power, clean coal, solar, wind, geothermal, hydropower, as well as drilling for oil and natural gas in an environmentally responsible way.

Courts and the Police

Republicans believe a judge’s role is to interpret the law, not make law from the bench. Judges in our federal court system, from district courts to the Supreme Court, should demonstrate fidelity to the U.S. Constitution.

We support the police as an essential element of our society and oppose policies at both the local and national level to undermine the police.
